Michael's Life Michael John Lundholm was born on May 19, 1983 at 11:59 p.m. Michael always thought he should have two birthdays - May 19th and the 20th. His reasoning was his head was born on the 19th and the rest of him on the 20th. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was born at Hackley Hospital and weighed 8 lbs. 14 oz. and was 21 inches long. He passed away on November 23rd at 2:38 a.m. in a single car accident. He was only 23 years old.
Michael was the only son of John W. Lundholm (wife Nancy) and Diane R. Hutchins Sluis (husband Michael). Michael had one sister named Jilliane and a niece named Emily. Also surviving him are step brothers Karl, Aaron, Gavin and one stepsister Ashley. He was the grandson of Carole Vanderberg, Wes and Molly Hutchins, and Carl and Betty Lundholm. He had many special aunts and uncles: Nancy and Mike Scott, Donna and Tim Rillema, Christine Tooker, Debbie & Bert Grega, Bob and Nancy Lundholm, and Carl and Norma Lundholm. Also surviving him are many cousins: Jesse and Megan Scott, Sarah and Joe Rillema, Janet Hamm, David Decker, Alicia, Bryce and Joshua Tooker, and Sean and Sarah Lundholm. Michael grew up with Matt Olsen, Nate Spoelman, Michael DiPiazza, Shane Patrick, Scott Hanichen, Jenny Tindall, and so many other special friends from Reeths-Puffer Schools. Traveling to Michigan State Michael once again surrounded himself with a vast array of friends. A special young lady named Kari Gies entered Michael's life. I would like to name all of Michael's friends both Reeths-Puffer, MSU, etc. but I can't even begin to. You know who you are. Michael's complete obituary can be viewed at http://www.sytsemafh.com./ If you get a chance, please stop by and read the guest book.
Michael loved life and lived each and every day to the fullest. Michael lived his life like the motto that he had engraved on his IPOD: "Live 4 Now". As a little boy Michael loved playing outside, animals and sports. He participated in Little League, Laketon Youth Soccer, Reeths-Puffer golf, track, and tennis. His real love was downhill skiing. In 6th grade "Mr. A" (Joe Abdelkader), his sixth grade teacher invited Michael to join ski club and off he went. Skiing trips included: Lake Tahoe with Scotty Hanichen, Colorado with Matt Olsen, Montana with MSU friends, and Canada with his fellow med school students. He also enjoyed Boyne Mountain and Crystal Mountain with his high school buddies. In 2005 Michael competed in his first triathlon. He placed 2nd in his age group. Jesse, Michael's cousin, competed in his first triathlon in memory of Michael in July of 2007. He also finished 2nd in his age group. Jesse said he felt Michael's presence pushing him to the finish line. A rainbow appeared as Jesse crossed the finish line.
Michael was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Muskegon, MI. God was very important to Michael. Pastor Bill Uetricht confirmed Michael as well as Matt Olsen, Michael DiPiazza, Ryan Kolberg in his confirmation class at 1st. At one time Michael considered being a minister, but later changed deciding that medicine was what he wanted to pursue as a career. We would like to thank Pastor Bill for the wonderful service that was held for Michael at 1st.
Michael graduated from Reeths-Puffer in 2001 9th in his class. He was class president his senior year. He applied to Michigan State and was accepted. He said, “Once green blood always green blood!" He loved MSU. He loved meeting new friends, his classes and everything the campus/school had to offer. He took advantage of his time there and lived his life to the fullest. He received his B.S. in Nutritional Science in May of 2005. His dream was starting to happen. He applied to medical schools and happily accepted Michigan State once again. Michael started medical school the Fall of 2005. His enthusiasm and love of learning was astonishing to watch. His 3rd grade dream of becoming a doctor was happening. Thanksgiving morning Michael's dream ended. He was taken way too soon, but is now with God, safe and happy. His wonderful smile is missed by everyone that knew him. Michael, you are forever in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. You are a true blessing. Until we meet again . . . Love, Mom
